Top 15 Things You Really Need in Your Wardrobe

We have all seen posts online or in magazines about what every woman should have in their wardrobe but some of them are so unrealistic and I can think of many more essential things than what they would come up with. A Mulberry handbag is very much needed but not necessarily essential. So here are my top 15 things you actually need!!

1. Basic T-shirt.

image1xxl

ASOS £12

You can’t go wrong with a basic t-shirt. I like mine best when they are oversized for a more laid-back, slouchy style. This tee is from ASOS, I currently have it in white but definitely considering getting it in black too. Tees are brilliant for chucking on over a pair of jeans or leggings

2. Skinny Jeans

Topshop £40

Topshop jeans are possibly the best jeans going. They come in a huge range of sizes and styles and even though they are a bit costly they are worth it. I definitely think that it is worth investing in more expensive jeans as they will last longer and you will definitely notice the difference in fit. Black and Blue are the obvious colours to have as they go with everything but if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous but still want to keep it simple try grey or khaki.

3. Little Black Dress

Missguided £13.99

I am absolutely in love with this LBD and for such a good price I’m definitely considering getting it. Missguided are brilliant for dresses as they have such a wide range of styles in a variety of colours. This of the shoulder style is really in at the moment and this dress comes in all different colours. LBD are perfect for when you are having an outfit crisis. I think I own at least 10 little black dresses and they are always my go to outfits if I’m unsure what else to wear.

4. Leather Jacket

Miss Selfridge £150

A good quality leather jacket is a must! Investing in a real leather jacket is worth it because it is likely that you won’t need to buy another one again. Leather jackets are brilliant for grunging up any outfit such as a cute summer dress when the nights get cooler. If you are going to splash out on anything I definitely think it should be a leather jacket and this Miss Selfridge one is a reasonable price.

5. Trainers

Converse £43

No matter what sort of trainers…Vans, Converse, Blazers etc. Every girl should have a pair, there are no comfier shoes and are perfect footwear for a long day of shopping. Not only are the comfy but unlike the majority of shoes; they can we worn all year round. I currently own 2 pairs of Vans, White converse and some wedged trainers and cannot wait to expand my collection. Trainers come in unlimited styles, colours and patterns so they suit anyone’s tastes and a lot of the brands let you customise to your liking.

6. Ballet Pumps

New Look £12.99

This one is quite self-explanatory. Ballet pumps are so handy for every occasion, slip them into your bag on a night out, dress down an outfit, pair with a summer dress… the possibilities are endless. I love wearing mine with skinny jeans as they dress up my outfit instantly without looking over the top. Embellished pumps are my favourite and I have two gorgeous studded pairs from Topshop. However plain pumps are a staple wardrobe inclusion because of their practicality.

7. Black Heels

Screen Shot 2013-04-13 at 19.57.57

New Look £19.99

This is similar to the post about. Every girl needs a pair of black heels, they go with pretty much anything. The most important thing about buying heels though are that they HAVE to be comfy. I know that I cannot walk very well in stiletto style heels so I always go for the chunkier style as I feel a lot safer haha. Barely there heels are everywhere after Manolo Blahnik showcased his heels throughout fashion week.

8. Skater Skirt

Screen Shot 2013-04-13 at 20.23.59

River Island £18

Skater skirts are very important in a woman’s wardrobe. They flatter any figure by tucking in the waist and slimming the legs. I have a black leather one that I absolutely love which I wear night and day but I’ve been looking everywhere for a denim one for a long while. This River Island one is a lovely light shade and a brilliant price!

9. Bright Coloured Jumper

azz51407_lilac_xl

Boohoo £15

I love wearing bright jumpers to add some colour to my outfits. I have a pink one and red one both are lovely rich colours. This purple one is a gorgeous colour and really cheap! When the weather is crap its nice to inject a bit of colour into your wardrobe to brighten up your day. I wear a lot of black and grey so this is a good way for me to try out colour.

10. Summer Dress

image1xxl-1

ASOS £20

Everyone needs to have a favourite summer dress that they throw on as soon as Britain sees the tiniest bit of sun. Loose fitting and in bright colours or floral are the best ways to go. This red one from ASOS is cute and summery and the style will keep you cool on a hot day. The skater style is very flattering and this dress would look lovely with tan sandals or over a bikini on holiday.

11. Statement Necklace

Bershka £14.99

Myself and my flatmate are obsessed with statement necklaces especially neon ones. I love wearing mine with plain t-shirts or jumpers so make them look a bit more interesting. This Bershka one is beautiful and a reasonable price. The colours are really bright and I love all the different textures and embellishments. This would look really great with a LBD on a night out!!

12. Hoodie

Screen Shot 2013-04-13 at 21.44.21

Tkmaxx £16.99

I live in my hoodies. I recently got one in a similar colour as the one above also from Tkmaxx and I love it. The colour is so bright and is great for someone like me who is starting to experiment with colours more. No girl can be without a hoodie especially with the unpredictable weather but most importantly it is the outfit of hangover days! I have  grey, green and raspberry colours and feel that blue will be my next choice.

13. Denim Shorts

hmprod

H & M £19.99

Denim shorts are a must have for holidays and as soon as the british weather gets over 20C. I much prefer high-waisted shorts to hot pants but each to their own. These bleached shorts from H & M are similar to ones that I own and I absolutely love them. Vests and shorts are my favourite outfit in the summer.

14. White Shirt

2588372251_1_1_3

Zara £29.99

Everyone needs a white shirt, this one goes for both men and woman. White shirts are brilliant for professional occasions such as work or job interviews. But also white shirts are staple for the monochrome trend, matched with tailored trousers, pencil skirt or leather shorts. The dip hem of this Zara shirt makes it different from common shirts but in a good way.

15. Boots

32A66CBLK_large

Topshop £62

I live in my Chelsea boots and I’m probably going to die in them too! I think boots are very important because of their practicality. Whether they are Chelsea, studded, cut out or military they should be waterproof so you can still look stylish on rainy days. These boots are light weight and can be worn all year round.

Hope you have enjoyed this (lengthy) post, if you have any other ideas about what every girl should have in their wardrobe then let me know 🙂

Illustrative Clothing

New designer and recent graduate Elvira ‘t Hart has brought something completely new to fashion. She has designed a new range that transforms 2D sketches into 3D garments. This is obviously what most designers do but Hart has taken it one step further by making her sketches the pattern.  Instead of filling in the areas the pen misses she has used a laser cutter to turn her pieces into real life hand generated sketches. Hart explains that  “An image is reduced to lines, planes and areas which do not have to be fully formed or finished in order to portray their ultimate meaning: it stimulates the imagination.”

This collection is so captivating and something I don’t think I have ever seen before. The clothing reminds me of comics and story boards. I think that the scarf and crop tops are my favourite but the scarf will definitely be more to look at than to keep warm though. I am really excited about Hart and after browsing her website I can’t wait to see what she does next.

From her illustrations on her website you can definitely see how her designs have properly come together with her vision.

Little Mistress Competition Entry

Hello 🙂

I am entering the Little Mistress competition where you could win £500 to spend on their website!! I haven’t known about Little Mistress for long but the clothes they have on there are so stylish and there is something for every occasion.I think that it’s really good that they have now introduced a shoe range as I feel that this was something they were lacking. I am going away overnight with my sister soon and would love a Little Mistress wardrobe to wear for some retail therapy and a good night out. I have chosen some of my most favourite pieces of the site and styled them how I would wear them in the day and for a night out. We are staying in London for the night so the first day will be mostly traveling so I need to be comfortable and these flats are to die for. My wardrobe is mostly taken up with monochrome so this outfit would fit in perfectly. For a night out I love sparkly. Even though this dress is more on the higher budget it is gorgeous and you can tell that it is high quality! Finally who doesn’t love a matching two piece? This set is on trend and relaxed so I can wear it while trailing all the shops I can. Why don’t you check out the site for yourself and see what beautiful pieces you can pick up. www.little-mistress.co.uk

Keep your fingers crossed for me xx

&OtherStories

I’m so excited to have stumbled upon this brand. & Other Stories is a brand under the H&M company so we know its going to be full of bargains and amazing style. The fashionable, on-trend store offers ready-to-wear, jewellery, shoes, bags, accessories and beauty. The pieces are all made with natural and high quality materials such as leather and semi precious stones. My wish list is now never ending! Everything on this website is classic and timeless so even though some of the items are a bit more pricey, you know they are never going to go out of fashion. The delicate bracelets are my favourite as they are really diverse and wearable. This website provides something for any type of style and budget. I’m not sure how i’ve managed without this site and I can’t wait to place my first order. But first to make my mind up on a few favourites rather than buying the whole store.

Even though the brand is Swedish we do have a store on 256-258 Regent Street, London.

The online store does delivery all over Europe and British delivery cost £6 and takes around 3 working days.

Check out the website yourself here: www.stories.com

London Fashion Week Day Five – Barbara Casasola

Barbara Casaola

This collection is extremely sophisticated and businesswomen like. The power suits and structured silhouettes are sensible but yet a bit cheeky with the crop tops and sheer fabric. The panels were slightly risky but they broke down the strict feel of the rest of the show. The ‘octopus tentacles’ hanging of the bottom of the skirts are not really my cup of tea; nether are the wide brim hats. But the colour blocking and clashing combinations make for a bright autumn/winter. Most of the collection had focused on daywear but the nightwear was beautiful, the dresses sculpted the models into visionary beauties.

London Fashion Week Day 5 – KTZ

KTZ

This Moroccan themed collection, the subdued monochrome palette was necessary against the beautiful technology added intricacy to the designs. The Laser cut leather and mirrored embroidery mixed with the geometric patterns and organza panels made the pieces busy yet modest. The headscarves and veils made the models look like blushing brides but also British pearly queens at the same time. The only colour that was introduced was at the end of the show and was a model covered in what looked like liquid gold. The collection produced some beautiful individual pieces but wearing the whole look together could be a bit OTT.

London Fashion Week Day Five – Simon Gao

Simon Gao

New on the scene Chinese designer Simon Gao has made us sit up and look with this collection. He is huge in China but not very well known in Britain but this is soon about to change. The collection was mostly monochrome with splashes of khaki and caramel. You can see that he has introduced some of his oriental heritage into his designs. The blend of western influence mixed with the Asian inspirations has given us sharp asymmetric cuts harmonised with draping fabric folded around the models. Slip-on trainers are my current lust so it was amazing to see these on the catwalk and made for a nice change to skyscraper heels. This collection threw every kind of fabric at us; chiffon, wool, leather and fur. This classic and wearable collection has made me very excited to see what else he has in store.

London Fashion Week Day Four – Giles

Giles

Giles was not a show that I was particularly fond of but there were a few gorgeous ready to wear pieces including the humming bird embroidery and colours. The bright oranges stood out against the rest of the monochrome collection. The gorgeous abstract floral patterns peeped through black folds in the fabric like secret gardens. This grungy look is not what we are used to seeing from Giles, we are much more used to his elegant yet quirky style. The reason I am mentioning this show is because of a massive fashion first ‘Insta-walk’ (as I like to call it). Cara Delevingne does like to shake things up and this time it was by filming herself strutting down the catwalk and posting it on Instagram. It mirrors her eccentric personality perfectly. See her crazy video on the link below.

London Fashion Week Day Four – Burberry Prorsum

Burberry Prorsum

With inspiration obviously coming from the previous menswear collection the range was covered in brightly coloured brush strokes. The trademark trench coats were included but in chiffon with floral art painted on. The neutral shades were accompanied by rich aubergine, avocado and earthy browns. Large Aztec and Burberry checked blankets wrapped around the models portrayed a slightly global bohemian feel to the show. The selection of fabrics used increase this international impression with soft chiffons, lace and wool all thrown together. British designers are not best known for taking consideration of the weather elsewhere in the world but Burberry has made this a vital. There want their collection to be worn all over the world and for this to happen it needs to be versatile. Even the models were some of the most intercontinental we have seen, Neelam Joha – Burberry’s first Indian model, Xiao Wen Ju, Sung Hee Kim, Suki Waterhouse and our very own best of British Cara Delevingne. The finale was spectacular with all the models swathed in cashmere blankets with their initials inscribed on.

London Fashion Week Day Four – Whistles

Whistles

Whistles is getting bold. The high street brand is giving some of the more prestige brands a run for their money. They created perfectly executed eveningwear along side cosy chunky outerwear. The brand is very customer aware, proving her with flattering silhouettes at brilliant prices. The simplicity of the navy and lavender for eveningwear is timeless but the textured accompaniments add something a bit more special. Print was the biggest feature of the daywear, loud checks in mohair, silk and jacquard fabric. These pieces are not necessarily something that will be worn all together as the overall effect could look a bit engulfing. The beautiful plush knits and furs make for a cosy pause, paired with slouchy trousers the look is relaxed yet sophisticated. Whistles really has pulled it out of the bag, the simplistic style at high street prices is hard to come by at this standard. However I don’t think that sandals make for appropriate A/W footwear.
